12 a.m midnight. Step out of the car and walk onto the oasis.. Probably the last time. Its been long since I set foot on the oasis to eat the taiwan porridge. For those of you who don't know, its the one near the indoor stadium where the infrastructure lays on the sea bed.
Its quite sad that the business will be closing down at the end of the year. Our Government "needed" the land or rather sea to build a bigger sports stadium whereby the stadium can open and close as it wish... Everything around Singapore is changing. The roads are changing, the building are changing and even hawker centres are renovated that doesnt look like hawker anymore. Its because the government want to make it appealing to the foreigners or tourist at most.
Does that mean that you have to take away our memories and traditions that identify this country this nation as the unique singapore. Don't the goverment realise that the unique singapore they are building is just superficial. Sadly, they don't realise it, they just want to make what attract tourist most and international eyes most.
Back at the restaurant, my dad order the same dishes. It have the spicy sambal kangkong, the pork intestine, fish, omelette and the sweet potatoe porridge. I've been eating this since young. My parents brought me and my sister mostly at weekends.
Time really stops here. It really does, the atmosphere the people are all calmingly looking. A great place for relaxation.
A woman wearing a blue suit on top of a white uniform approaches us. Shes my father's friend. I assume shes in her 60s now. Had been working here since 16. A really friendly lady. She chatted with us saying that sis and i grow up really fast etc etc. And perhaps shes not working after the closure of this restaurant. As her children are all grown up. A really loyal lady indeed. She has my respect.
After the supper, we walk across the sheltered bridge and looking back at the restaurant for the last time. "Taking it for granted is neglecting it, Appreciating it is reminiscing it" Lets live with no regrets...
